The FMA National Conference is now only 7 weeks away! The Conference ‘Floods in a Changing Climate’ will be
held at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 21 – 24 May 2024 and will focus on keeping flood risk management a high priority when seasonal forecasts are for below average rainfall, and flooding patterns change as the climate warms. We are delighted to announce
details of the three outstanding Keynote Presenters for this year’s Conference: Professor Gavin Smith - North Carolina State University College of Design Dr Smith is an internationally
recognised expert on natural hazards, disasters, and climate change adaptation. As an Assistant Director in the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management he led the acquisition and relocation of more than 5,000 flood-prone homes and developed a state-wide hazard mitigation planning program. Dr Margaret Cook - Australian Rivers Institute, Griffith University Dr Cook is fascinated by water and its interactions with humans, animals, and the environment over time. She researches waterways, climate, and environmental change, with a particular focus on rivers and floods. Recent books are A River
with a City Problem, Disasters in Australia and New Zealand, and Cities in a Sunburnt Country. Professor Paula Jarzabkowski - University of Queensland Professor Jarzabkowski is a global expert in public-private mechanisms to address the disaster insurance protection gap.
